Abstract

Objective In this study, the Influence of Grape Seed Proanthocyanidin Extract on Fas Protein and Bcl-2 protein expression from acute ultraviolet injury was investigated in skin by solar-simulator radiation. Methods Areas of skin of normal volunteers were divided into four sites: normal untreated skin, skin treated with 2-MED UV radiation, or skin treated with GPSE solutions or Vehicle 30minutes before 2-MED solar simulated radiation. Skin areas of different sites were examined immunohistochemically for Fas Protein and Bcl-2 protein expression. Results On immunohistochemical examination, Skin treated with GSPE before UV radiation reduced Fas protein expression and upregulated Bcl-2 protein expression compared with skin treated only with UV radiation. Conclusion Grape Seed Proanthocyanidin Extract may protect skin against acute sunburn partly through reducing Fas protein expression and upregulated Bcl-2 protein expression.
